Safe Schools South Florida Teams Up With Best Buy
by Joshua Head
Miami Beach FL - June 9, 2009 ---
Safe
Schools South Florida announced plans that are underway for a
first-time collaboration between
Best Buy
and
Safe Schools South Florida
to present a free and exciting technology summer academy for
LGBTQ youth!
Programs like the Summer Academy
validates and normalizes these youths and their identities” says
Robert Loupo, Executive Director of Safe Schools South Florida. It provides them with opportunities to interact and connect
with other LGBTQ youths”, he continued.
Robert feels that the event paves the
way for other businesses, corporations, and
agencies
to also reach out publicly to the LGBTQ youths in our community via
trainings and services for this population. In a very practical way, the Summer Academy provides
opportunities to build computer and technology-related skills for
these students; skills which will be a big asset for any youth”,
Loupo says.
The
Geek Squad Summer Academy is a program customized for our
student community to inspire youth to get involved firsthand with
technology. Through interactive classes and activities,
students will learn more about navigating our increasingly "techie"
world and the possibility of an exciting future in the technology
field. A certificate of completion will be given at the end of
the program.
This partnering is the first outreach
by
Best Buy and
Geek Squad Agents to the LGBTQ community and their allies in Southern Florida.
The program is scheduled to take place
June 29 through July 2, with the location
to be determined.
Please pass this information to all LGBTQ youth and their allies who
may be interested.
