MGLFF Monthly Movie Screening Presents: Mary Lou

by Press Release

Miami Beach, FL - December 19, 2011 ---The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival will Mary Loube kicking off the new year with the HBO Latin America “GLOW” series (Gays & Lesbians On Wednesdays) screening of “Mary Lou.” Immediately before the screening, movie goers are invited to a pre-GLOW reception to enjoy cocktails provided by Chambord Vodka and Herradura Tequila while nibbling on a variety of hors d’ oeuvres.

Acclaimed Israeli director Eytan Fox brings to life a modern fable with a catchy musical message in a story based on the songs of Israeli pop legend Svika Pick. Miriam, played by Maya Dagan, so desperately wants to be a famous singer that she abandons her 10-year-old son Meir, played by Ido Rosenberg, to pursue the limelight.  Despite a few distractions, including a duel with his best girlfriend over the same gorgeous guy, Meir never stops searching for his mother, and eventually moves to Tel Aviv where he becomes a famous drag queen named Mary Lou.  The songs never stop coming as Meir/Mary Lou discovers the need to find himself even more than the need to find his mother.

More thoughtful than Glee and as spirited as Mama Mia, MARY LOU is a top-notch musical with a serious message. The film features the ebullient music of Svika Pick—who composed the Eurovision award-winning song Diva, made famous by singer Dana International.
